Mindfulness-Based Eating

A virtual therapy specialty offered BY Oliva Wellness to adults across North Carolina

Mindfulness-based eating offers a different approach.

Our relationship with food is shaped over time —
by our experiences, our environment,
and the ways we’ve learned to cope,
nourish, and care for ourselves.

Eating often becomes automatic, rushed,
or stress-driven. Mindful eating isn’t a diet or a set of rules; it’s about reconnecting with your body and your choices, and moving from reactive to intentional, responsive eating.

A more connected way of eatinG

Mindfulness-Based Eating
helps you slow down, tune in, and respond
to your body with greater trust.

It involves developing:

  • Inner Wisdom
    Awareness of your body’s
signals, including hunger, fullness, satisfaction, and emotional cues

  • Outer Wisdom
    Using nutrition knowledge
in a flexible, personalized way that
    supports your health and lifestyle

This approach creates space for curiosity
rather than judgment, and for flexibility rather than control.

Step 1

Recognize Hunger & Fullness

Learn how to identify your body’s natural signals and differentiate physical hunger from emotional or situational urges.

what we focus on

Step 2

Slowing Down & Savoring Food

Reconnect with the experience of eating—taste, texture, and satisfaction—rather than eating on autopilot.

Step 3

Understand “Enough”

Develop awareness of comfortable fullness and learn how to respond to your body’s needs in different contexts.

Step 4

Reduce All-or-Nothing Thinking

Let go of rigid food rules and a food-morality mindset—good food, bad food —and replace them with flexibility and self-trust.

Step 5

Make Intentional Food Choices

Balancing satisfaction and nutrition while making intentional food choices in a way that feels realistic and sustainable for your life.

Step 6

Build Mindfulness Skills

Practice noticing thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and urges with greater awareness and less reactivity.

who it’s for

This service may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel disconnected from your hunger or fullness cues

  • Eat quickly, while distracted, or on autopilot

  • Struggle with stress or emotional eating

  • Feel stuck in cycles of being good and starting over

  • Want a more peaceful, sustainable relationship with food

Mindfulness-based eating is most effective when your relationship with food is stable enough to safely explore internal cues.

This service is not appropriate for individuals who are currently experiencing active eating disorder symptoms, such as:

  • Ongoing restrictive eating

  • Frequent bingeing or purging

  • Significant distress or instability around food

If this applies to you, a more structured eating disorder treatment approach is recommended first. I am happy to help guide you toward appropriate support.
